A Hub for Discoveries and Training
New research teams / arrival of new researchers
Over the past year, the Research Centre was pleased to welcome Dr. Simon Duchesne, who joined the Obesity, Type 2 Diabetes, and Metabolism research axis. In addition, 17 healthcare professionals launched their research programs at the Centre. Drs. Hugo De Larochellière, Michel Germain, Charles Laurin, Vincent Leclerc, Louis-Étienne Marchand, Joëlle Morin, Amélie Paquin, Julie Racicot, Viktoria Stanova, Pierre-Yves Turgeon, Audrey Vachon, and Lionel Tastet joined the Cardiology research axis. Drs. Maude Dubé-Pelletier, Andréanne Gagné, Vicky Mai, Audrey-Ann Pelletier-St-Pierre, and Michel Ménassa joined the Pulmonology research axis. We also highlight the recruitment of Dr. Marc Fortin to the Faculty of Medicine as an adjunct clinician-educator.
Training the next generation
Each year, our researchers are actively involved in teaching both practical and theoretical courses. They also supervise a growing number of graduate students at the master’s and doctoral levels, postdoctoral fellows, medical residents during their research rotations, as well as undergraduate and college-level students. In 2024–2025, our researchers supervised 199 graduate students and 189 trainees and residents. In addition, thanks to a grant of more than $92,000 through the Canada Summer Jobs program, 42 students had the opportunity to join the Research Centre team during the summer of 2024. The goal of this program is to provide students with work experience in their field of study. These students benefited from researchers’ expertise and access to state-of-the-art equipment.

Researcher productivity and knowledge translation
This year, researchers published 739 articles in leading international scientific journals such as The Lancet, The New England Journal of Medicine, The Journal of the American Medical Association, Nature Medicine, Nature, and others. Researchers also participate in numerous international conferences and symposia. This year, our clinicians and researchers delivered more than 300 invited lectures, and their work was presented through more than 766 scientific abstracts worldwide.
Scientific life and organization of major events
Scientific life plays a key role in fostering a dynamic environment where knowledge exchange is constant. Each year, the Centre organizes the Research Scientific Days, which allow students and research professionals to showcase their work. In addition, several journal clubs, seminars, and conferences are held annually. These activities, organized in Quebec or elsewhere around the world, bring together leading international researchers and promote discussions on ongoing studies and the most recent discoveries. Finally, as leaders in their fields, our researchers regularly organize major scientific events
Two centre researchers among the world’s most influential scientists

Once again, researchers from the Research Centre have been included in the prestigious annual list of the world’s most frequently cited scientists. This ranking is produced by Clarivate Analytics, a company that owns and manages several scientific journals. This year, the two researchers recognized are Dr. Vincenzo Di Marzo and Dr. Philippe Pibarot.
Partnerships supporting research development and innovation
Over the past year, the Institute and 20 other healthcare institutions in Quebec continued their collaboration with the CATALIS public-private network, which provides an ACCELERATED clinical trial evaluation service in partnership with pharmaceutical companies. With more than 69 active clinical trials since its launch, including ten at the Institute, this service aims to optimize the clinical research environment in Quebec and accelerate the development of innovative treatments for the benefit of patients.
Key partners
We wish to highlight the significant contribution of several key partners, including:
Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)
The CIHR are major funding agencies for the scientific community. Each year, many researchers receive grants or fellowships that support the advancement of their research programs. Over the past year, grants obtained from CIHR by our clinicians and researchers totaled $5.3 million, representing 48% of the funding received from agencies recognized by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS).
Fondation IUCPQ
Thanks to the generosity of its donors, the Fondation IUCPQ awarded a total of $2,186,017 in 2024 to support numerous research projects and provide researchers with leverage to secure external funding. Of this amount, $1,080,000 was awarded to 44 researchers through the annual research competition to advance research and support efforts to combat cardiovascular, pulmonary, and metabolic diseases. An additional $140,000 was allocated to support the biobank. The Foundation is proud to raise funds to invest in patient care by propelling the Institute toward the medicine of tomorrow, today.
