The Centre de recherche
The Centre de recherche is the only centre funded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS) that brings together research areas in cardiology, respirology, and obesity, type 2 diabetes, and metabolism. These three fields identified as priorities due to the considerable economic and societal impact of the diseases associated with them.
Here, Research is Changing the World
The Importance of Our Research
The research areas of our Centre are at the heart of global health priorities and represent a key strategic strength in curbing the progression of devastating societal chronic diseases. Indeed, according to the World Health Organization, societal chronic diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, diabetes, and cancer, account for 63% of deaths worldwide. Obesity, which has reached the proportions of a global epidemic, is one of the most significant risk factors for these conditions.
An Integrated Research Model
The natural alignment between the Institute’s research areas and its clinical missions gives the Centre a unique character, to the great benefit of patients and care recipients. This ongoing synergy between researchers and health care professionals fosters effective knowledge transfer into clinical practice, fully aligned with the visions of the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
Our research teams fully leverage this strong alignment to deepen the understanding of the metabolic determinants of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, while developing innovative and competitive research rooted in Quebec and focused on prevention and treatment. This integrated approach also enables the identification of research priorities directly connected to the clinical challenges specific to the Institute’s subspecialties.
